Why I pay too much for the iPhone and why it doesn’t matter
In two years it’ll cost me at least $2500! but it’s still way better than my last phone.
- Smart virtual keyboard
- Internet browser
- Nice calendar
- Gesture limit feedback
- Contact meta data customization
- Contact list scrolling
- Type hierarchy
- Turn -by-turn directions
- WiFi
- Fluid UI transitions
- Ability to email pictures
- Magnify Glass for text cursor placement
CONS:
- Volume
(way too quiet - maybe it’s broken) - Key layout
(delete next to enter) - Minimal UI breadcrubs with no back buttons
(you suddenly will jump to another section with no way back) - No flash support
(take 10 steps back on that one) - 2 year contract with AT&T to use phone
(unless you have bad credit - then you can do a month-to-month contract : link ) - Accidental cancellation
(be sure to save progress often before you accidentally hit the cancel button) - Expensive toy
(there is no good reason you NEED one) - No memory or battery access
(you HAVE to sync your data - not retrieve it. Battery replacement takes 3 days, $90, and erases all your data : link) - No copy and paste
- Widgets are web based on html and javascript in safari only
(ui nightmare - hindered experience) - Apple didn’t make any widgets out the gate
(you know it’s bad when they can’t make any “sweet” apps) - It crashes way too often
(if any page in Safari crashes, everything closes and sends you back to the menu - even non-Safari apps)
Widgets - better
- iPhone Interface in JavaScript
- iChat for iPhone in JavaScript
- Google Reader iPhone Skin
- One Trip
- Quip
- Top Five iPhone Apps of the Moment
- Ta-Da List
- iPhone Applications List
- iGiki
Widgets - lame | some very “non-sweet” apps for your phone.
- iWidget Gallery beta

iPhones really don’t offer anything that great. Look at the Nokia smart phones. Much more open, and friendly. Besides you don’t have to use AT&T then.
